This is a wonderful beautiful, awesome and unique 19th century Mexican folk art wooden Retablo of \"St. Rita of Cascia\", the partron saint of \"desperate cases\". It is painted on a wooden tabla or piece of wood In very wonderful colors. St Rita is holding a skull in her left hand and the crucifix in her right hand. She sometimes is protrayed with a stigmata on her forehead. The stigmata was said to have detached itself from the crucifix after hearing a sermon on the \"crown of thorns\" in the 15th century. I had this Retablo professionaly framed after I purchased it 15 years ago. This Retablo is encased in a beautiful cherry/walnut solid heavy wooden shadow box display case that measures 8\" wide x 10 1/2\" in height x 2\" thick it is framed with black matting and has TruGuard glass cover with UV light blocking protection. The cost of the encasing and framing with this beautiful solid cherry wood / walnut frame alone was over $150.00. I framed it after I purchased the Retablo. I purchased this Retablo over 15 years ago from a reputable antique dealer in San Francisco. The retablo itself measures 8\" x 5\" on wood and is in near perfect condition with very little paint loss, as you can see for yourself on the pictures. It has a deep blue background, and shows her burgandy cloak, and a golden halo. This retablo has minor paint loss and is a warm and beautiful one to have. I have enjoyed having this particular retablo very much. The figures you see are only reflections of the camera in the glass. This Retablo is my own personal collection and is in a clean enviornment. This would make a great addition to your St Rita collection. These Retablos are becoming more rare to obtain and the value is going up in price as the years go buy. Must see this Retablo in person.
