Offered for sale is a Stunning circa 1880 Patchwork Quilt
This vintage circa 1880 quilt is extraordinary! The quilt is extremely graphic using a four patch block pattern and a \"strippy\" technique. The use of strips of fabric to showcase a quilt pattern was highly prevalent during the19th century, and the quilter of this fine quilt used the technique to great graphic advantage. The Victorian fabrics are absolutely gorgeous and in very good condition for the vintage. The many small prints are beautiful and pieced with an eye for design. The subtle use of browns and deep red in this quilt is amazing! This fabulous vintage quilt appears to be entirely hand stitched. The fine quilting is at 6 stitches per inch. The quilt is thin with a cotton batting. The quilt back is a brown fabric with a very tiny deep red floral print. The back has a few areas of thinning exposing the cotton backing. This is highly characteristic of Victorian brown fabrics due to the dyes employed during that period. There is one small dime sized area of discoloration on the back, photographed. This does not go through to the front. The quilt edge finish is hand stitched with the tiniest of stitches. There are a few areas of edge fray, again totally consistent with the age. This quilt measures 80\" in length and 68\" in width. This is truly a vintage quilt collector\'s dream find. The Victorian print fabrics are incredible!Shipping in the continental US is $15.00.
