Weighs in the region of 8lbs. We have the dial and the ring and the casing below. We have 4 revolving brass discs inside. There is an irregular hole at one end of the casing you can see the brass wheels inside. There is a number on the top inside of the ring it is 27896. If this is the same as the serial number of he safe it came from then we have an early item. The 1860\'s date in the title of my listing is a complete guess! This will ship priority medium box.

Joseph L. Hall began the manufacture of safes in 1846, forming Hall’s Safe & Lock Company in 1848. In 1867 the business of Joseph L. Hall & Company had grown to such proportions that it was deemed advisable to incorporate the house into a joint stock company and the same was done under the name of the Hall Safe and lock Company, with Mr. Hall as president and treasurer.
From the commencement success crowned his efforts, and now (1872), though the works are producing from fifteen to twenty safes a day, yet they are found inadequate to supply the demand for them, and are to be greatly enlarged. There is nothing strange in the increase of this demand, when it is remembered that in the course of their business career (by 1872) the Hall Safe and Lock Company has sold over fifty thousand (50,000) of their safes and have yet to learn of the first instance in which a safe of their manufacture has failed to prove itself, when tested, absolutely burglar or fire proof.
