Beautiful, Rare & Large Waterman 414 SF Sleeve Filler Sterling Silver Filigree Overlay Vintage Fountain Pen, ca. 1910. The Sleeve Filler is a unique self filling fountain pen that has a hidden pressure bar that facilitates the filling of the pen. This is a large pen and fits nicely in the hand. It has a beautiful art Nouveau pattern sterling silver filigree overlay. The pen istslf is made from black hard rubber, also known as vulcanized rubber and ebonite. The nib is an original Waterman New York #4 made from 14K solid gold. It has an “F” Fine writing style. Early Waterman overlays are rare in themselves but Sleeve filler are extremely rare and collectible and will enhance any Waterman or an vintage fountain pen collection.

Excellent condition. Overlay is in nice condition with some wear. No chips, cracks or hairlines. Clip has been replaced with a nickel clip and has not been revited well. It looks like the original rivits were used to affix the nickel clip to the cap. It is possible to find a period sterling clip and have it professionally rerivited to the cap. I did this routinely as a professional repair person for twenty years but I no longer do this so have left the pen as is. Also, I didn’t have a replacement clip. Black hard rubber shows some oxidation but is still in nice condition. Barrel is professionally engraved Merber & Solomon which I feel enhances the pen. I couldn’t find out anything about this interesting engraving but I hypothesize that it was a circus act. Iridium of the nib is intact. Pen has a fresh sac and has been professionally reconditioned.
