This is a superb Japanese wooden carving of an elephant being attacked by a lion at the rear of which:
During our research we have been informed itcertainly dates from the 19th century.
Dates about c1880s.
Of a Japanese origin.
Signed underneath by the Japanese sculptor.
A wooden carving of the elephant with the wonderful detailing:
a front foot stands on a decorative base.
To the rear, a lion attacking the elephant, again with fine detail.
A relief carving.
It has an overall height of about 6inches.
Max overall size of about 9.5 x 4.75inches.
