Dating from the mid 1800s this beautiful antique French chateau wall shelf would originally have carried a decorative bracket clock but could now be used to display a period statue or a similar period treasure.
I have left it just as I found it, full of faded grandeur and the look is sheer chateau grandeur.
The outer edges , base and top edge are gilded ormolu that have taken on a beautiful soft old gold with the passage of time.
The front corners have intricate acanthus leaf flourishes and the base is an acanthus leaf finial with scrolled leaves. The quality really is superb.The wooden bracket is gilded and hand painted with a magnificent and very beautiful array of flowers and foliage. Both the sides have displays as well as the front and this bracket is stunning from every angle. The painting is finely worked and of superb quality too.
The top of the shelf carries a border of small roses and sprigs.
There is no woodworm or damage and the measurements are:
Height 9\" (22.5cms)
Max diameter at wall 9.5\" (24cms)
Extends forwards from the wall 5.5\" (14cms)
