This is a superb antique French wig stand or hat stand that dates from the late 1700s.
This gorgeous 18th century confection may have held a powdered wig or a plumed hat in the boudoir.
The wood I think is mahogony and it has taken on a rich deep colour with the passage of time.
It is all solid and strong. I have left it just as I found it and it would polish as required.
The central column is beautifully shaped and the top disc is generous and smooth.
I can see just one old woodworm hole in the base, there is no active worm - it is long gone! However, I have treated it again so it could not continue.

Base diameter 3.5\" (9cms)
A genuine period stand full of faded grandeur.
