Splendid George III/IV Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Snuff Box Made By Joseph Willmore
Description -Superb rectangular good gauge early to mid 19th century solid silver snuff box with hinged lid and foliate thumb piece.
The snuff box has concave sides and reeded decorationto the lid, base and sides and with a central rectangular cartouche on the.
The interior is silver-gilt(Gold washed).
The box is fully hallmarked with the Anchor for Birmingham assay, the lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the King\'s head, the date letter and the makers mark \"J W\" which is Joseph Willmore. The hallmarks aresignificantlyrubbed and hard to identify.
Condition -There is a small hole on the front right corner of the base (please see end photograph). Other than that the box is in very good order.
There are no dents, dinks, splits or repairs, the hinge is in good with no looseness closing the box fine, thereeded decoration is in very goodconditionbut with some light wear to the base.
The interior silver- gilt is is in good order with no wear but has some thinning in someareas.
Dimensions & Weight -The box is 6.5cm wide x 4cm long. The weight is 60.6 grams.
