These are a superb pair of large Staffordshire seated spaniel hearth dogs with the open front legs of which:

During our research we have been informed they certainlydate from the mid 19th century.

Date about c1860s.

Russet red & white in colour with the gold collars & locks with the black chains which continue to the rear.

Pottery.

A superb pair of large Staffordshire seated spaniel hearth dogs with their wonderful portrayals and facial details.

Open front legs.

A left & a right.

Each has an overall height of about 9.5inches.

Bases with overall sizes of about 7.5 x 5inches.

Condition: Considering the age: the overall condition to both is excellent with:

to one: an early repair to the rear front leg which continues to the base area.

a minor chip to the rear side at the base.

Similar repair to the other dogs same rear foot.

Due to ages both are subject to fine overall crazing and minor areas of loss of colour.
