SUPERBCHINESESACRIFICIAL BLUE PORCELAIN VASE

Qing Dynasty, Museum Quality

Magnificent Chineseporcelain vase of exceedingly fine coloration. Absolutely spectacular presence, withhandsome, deep sacrificial blue glaze. Hand potted porcelain beaker / gu form, strong and tasteful, with a rounded central body, flaring to the everted rim. The rich blue glaze thins to white at the rim,the interior is further glazed white. The exterior blue glaze is of superb quality, masterfully applied in a manner which allows sublime depth over theridges and crevasses of the vase.Images cannot adequately capture the refined subtleties that only come through when handling the piece, howeverdo review the photos with zoom feature to get some idea of the tasteful detail.

Sacrificial Blueglazed porcelain is found on the market very rarely, as Chinese collectors and museums have purchased most of the available pieces. The sapphire blue color became popular from the early Ming period onward, when the Hongwu emperor decreed that ceramic wares should be used for official sacrifices at the Imperial altars, and blue was the prescribed colour for ritual vessels at the Tiantan, 天壇, the Temple of Heaven. We have never seen a vase with this outstanding combination of glaze, quality, and form come available outside of the world\'s leading sale houses. An exceptionally rare and important piece.

In excellent antique condition, thisexquisitevase measures approximately 10.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide. The dark, deepglaze is most tactilely pleasing with a sublime surface patina. Beautiful from every angle with an elegant contour. Recently purchased from a Japanese collector in Kyoto. The Japanese have highly reveredChinese ceramics for centuries, where they have remained inprivate family collections, passed down from generation to generation. If onlythis elegant vasecould tell the stories of the gatherings that it has quietly witnessed. Amagnificent centerpiece for the discriminating connoisseur of world class Chinese antiques.
