This beautifully detailed wooden panel measures19\" long x 7.75\" wide x 1\" thick and weighs approximately 20 ounces. The carvingdepicts Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, wisdom and learning. A swan is located next to her feet. In Hindu mythology, the swan is a sacred bird, which if offered a mixture of milk and water, is said to be able to drink the milk alone. The swan symbolizes the ability to discriminate between good and evil, essence from outward show and the eternal from the evanescent. The swan is also a symbolism for spiritual perfection, transcendence and moksha.
