From my life long stash of antique laces, I am offering a fairly scarce and very lovely antique Victorian lace edging. This dates from the 1860s time period, Civil War era, and is a beautiful hand made lace that resembles hair pin lace and another style lace in there as well. Open and airy, the weave is pleasing and pretty. Made of a linen and/or cotton cording, soft yet quite strong. A gorgeous aged cream color. Long and wide, the shape is an \"L\" shape, and this looks as if perhaps it was never finished, and that story will never be known. Maybe the lady intended this to be the edging for her bedspread, linen bed sheet, or dining table cover, as it has that pointed deep corner. This came from an Italianate mansion that was built in the 1850s, found in an antique linen press. I was lucky enough to visit the estate over 25 years ago and am now passing this along to a new home. I spent some time with the great granddaughter of the woman who made this, who told me the story about her moving from Virginia to New Jersey as the war started, forced to stay with her \"Yankee\" relatives after both her husband and brother were killed early in the war. Clean, and in very good condition.

I think this has lots of possibilities! Looks stunning simply draped over a chair or mantle. Thank you for looking. I do have 1 more of these, in a different pattern, and in the same width, L shape and length, so perhaps she was making 2 different of these, or perhaps she intended both to be sewn to the same bedspread or cloth? The pattern of the lace looks much like those we see in Godey\'s Lady\'s book, Arthur\'s, etc.
