SCARCE HALLMARKED SOLID SILVER SANDWICH BOX - HUNTING/FISHING/RIDING - 1921:

For your consideration a rare solid silver English hallmarked sandwich box dating to the early 1920\'s.
Please view the pictures above as they hopefully show the detail.The box has a double hinge enabling the formation of a tray as is usual for these pieces. It has a gilded interior and a carrying handle.Four sets of hallmarks. First and main set to the inner body of the box comprise the makers mark \'WCG\' for W C Griffiths, the anchor for Birmingham, the lion denoting sterling silver, and the date letter \'w\' for 1921.
Second set on inner lid include makers mark, lion and date letter.
Third hallmarks on the hinged panel just consist of the lion and date letter.
Finally, the handle too has the lion and date letter stamped.The box measures 11.5 cms by 6.7 cms by 2.8 cms.
Weighs 162.3g.CONDITIONDifficult to show in the pictures, but the box has been well used and consequently there signs of wear and tear, including dents/dings/imperfections present mostly to the lid and base. The hinges work fine but are slightly out of alignment, so one side doesn\'t close as tightly as it should. A matter of small adjustment I suspect. The gilding has mellowed and is now quite pale in colour. Hallmarks are well defined and the handle is firmly attached.
