This is aRED & WHITESeniorAideBarcreated in 1962 for Servicein ANIMAL CARE.It has a recessedPAINTED surface which is very fragile, but this is in Excellent Condition.Itis actually new, old stock, but even so, there are tiny flecks of paint missingthat show only under a magnifying glass.This ranfrom 1962 until 1974 ONLY, and then was discontinued, making it a hard to findin any condition.The Girl Scout catalog number is 9-170 meaning itis painted with a J-hook catch. Please excuse mywatermarks. Other sellers have been infringing on my pictures and mywordage.
Further Information: Senior Aide Bars,1953-1979; Volunteer Service Bars; 1980-1994, or Community ServiceBars1994-2011required 25hours of serviceafter several hours oftraining.They were not commonly earned and some particular colorsare VERY HARD TO FIND.These pins were originally issued as aslightly recessed rectangle, painted various colors, and had a J-HookCatch.The paint was extremely fragile makingflawless painted pins nearly impossible to find.In1980, the name was changed to Volunteer Service Bars and the pinswere issued with an enamel coating of colorthat was smoothinstead of recessed.The color on these later pins is not fragile atall, but the catch breaks off easily.I think that is why in1995 the catch was changed to a clutch back,whichapparently is more reliable.In1994 this program had been reduced toTHREEpins,and called Community Service pins.All of this information changed in 2011 to make wayfor the Journey Program.All of my Service Bars have been stored incoin boards or individual bags to prevent further chipping.
