This sale is for 1 DAY ONLY and features a superb sounding set of classic headphones by Sennheiser. The HD-580 Reference is from the early 90\'s, a member of the HD-600 family, this classic headset is aimed at audiophiles and music lovers who appreciate comfort and superb reproduction of sound in a complete portable package. The HD-580 delivers excellent midrange and treble response for unbeatable timber and resolution. If you are familiar with the HD-600 and HD-650 (Both highly regarded Reference headsets in their own right) you likely know (or heard) about their infamous veiled sound and the controversy around it, while many appreciate their signature sound others find it a little too warm for their taste. I owned the 600\'s for a short while and sold them for the same reason. The HD-580 is free from the infamous veiled sound, instead this classic offers high frequencies that are (at least to my ear) more transparent, voices are realistic, and their signature sound balanced and relaxing with amazing soundstage/ imaging capabilities when used with the right combination of amplification and musical recordings, specially when listening to vinyl. It\'s like intimately listening to a pair of super expensive speakers in your own time and on your own space without bothering anyone. If your musical taste ranges from Jazz, Classical, New Age, to Strings, Blues, Classic Rock, 80\'s-90\'s pop and everything in between...you\'ll be right at home with these. If you are more of a Hip Hop or EDM music fan and you tend to favor bass heavy tracks these headphones are probably not for you( although their bass response is deep, tight and admirably respectable). The HD-580 can be driven by an Ipod to very acceptable levels but like most audiophile headsets it will benefit from true dedicated amplification via a dedicated headphone amplifier, home preamplifier or receiver/integrated amplifier. This particular unit is in great working condition, both drivers are sonically balanced and overall the unit is in good physical condition. There are a few scratches on the earcups The earpads and headband armature are in both in great shape. The foam cushions on the headband and the foam screen that covers the drivers are worn out (very common for all HD 580\'s and HD 600\'s). Replacement cushions and foam screens can be bought here on for $5 including shipping. Personally, I like not having anything covering the drivers. I find them truly revealing without anything in the form of acoustic foam getting in the way of my music and the comfort cushions aren\'t really needed since this is a very comfortable and light headset. The HD 580 is a very revealing headphone and will put your recordings to the test. If your library consists of mostly MP3 files, be warned...what sounded good on your old headphones will defenitely sound different on these. This headset will have no mercy in uncovering or revealing your libraries true strengths and weaknesess. The HD-580 has a big cult following in the Head-Fi circles, most owners praise their performance and prefer it to many current headsets selling in the $3-$500 range. These is the 2nd pair I have sold in the last 2 weeks. I have one mint in the box and don\'t need 3 so I have reluctantly decided to sell them to finance other recent acquirements.
