Offered here is an original painting by Serge Gres, circa 1960. Painting is oil on board and measures 32 x 26 inches (81 x 66 cm). The overall framed size is 35 x 29 inches. Painting is signed lower left \'Gres 60 Tahiti\'.

Condition is excellent with no problems and no restorations.

This is a particularly nice example from 1960 with good size, great composition, and bright palette. This is also an important work by Gres since one his etchings is based on this same image. See final photo for comparison. Etching is not included in sale.

Russian born Serge Gres studied in Paris and in 1932 left Europe for Tahiti where he remained until his death. He did however, make many trips to Europe and the US for painting exhibitions. Serge Grès is considered the painter of the Tahitian soul. His work gives a dramatic sense of color and a melancholy tone to his characters and landscapes. His work includes landscapes, nudes, compositions, and many portraits. He worked in oil, watercolor, charcoal, as well as being proficient in printmaking techniques. Tragically, in 1970, he died in an automobile accident.
