Pre WWII Mantle Clock--very heavy and built to last centuries (literally). We serviced this fine antique and is now ready to keep time and chime as designed. We also repair and service clocks for our customers; contact us.
For Sale isour 1924 Sessions Tambour Mantle/ Mantel eight day wind-up clock with keyand pendulum. The clock isunique and was obviously in great care.It has a soothing mechanical Tick-Tock; chimeson the hourand half hour (please take a moment to click on the YouTube video link below).
Over 90 years since made, the wood and finishhas gracefully aged witha leather look to it. It has theoriginal stain and coloring; a darkCherryfinish shows well. The casehas a few minor scuffs and blemishes. The each end is a Swirl engraving that is like the Sessions Mystic clock. Underside of the clock is theoriginal finish and screws holding the chime bars.
The movementis in excellent condition, duringthe service we had to install six new bushings and clean burrsfrom several of the teeth on the gear drive (train). The springs have excellent tensionand the clicks are very solid as the clock is wound. We did replace the time keeping mainspring--the old one did not have enough tension. We applied synthetic Keystone oil to the mainsprings. The pivots andholes have been treated quite well; as mentioned earlier, after cleaning wefound sixpivot holes that needed new bushings (see close up of the movement), three on the face side and three onthe backside of the movement. The new bushings allow for a nice rotationof the gear wheels with no wobble. We carefully applied new\"horolube\" synthetic oil to each of the movement points.
The bob orpendulum weight is original Sessions with a large \"S\" on each side ofthe bob. The chime bars are sturdy and havebeen carefully handled.The chime hammers are in excellent condition and makes a pleasant chime vice a metal clunk.
The face ismade of brass and cleaned / polished well withblack in set numbers--very old looking with minor flaws. The trim around the face inside the glass cover has somewear; it was originally all silver plate on brass, sadly some of the silverplating has worn showing the brass underneath. It is minor but needs to bepointed out. The hands of the clock are theoriginal Sessions hands--the hour has had some repair in the past--not bad but needs mentioned.
We servicedthe movement, with our synthetic oils thisfamily treasure will remain operational for many years. This clock keeps timevery well; we really appreciate the Sessions mechanical clocks for theworkmanship and details.
Refurbishedantique clocks are excellent wedding, holiday, graduation, anniversary,retirement, and birthday gifts. Our clock comes with a sturdy box for shippingand storage as well as detailed instructions for putting the clock in toservice. For shipment, we carefully protect the moving parts inside the clockand then wrap in high quality bubble wrap. We then fill the box with foampeanuts and nestle the antique clock in the middle. We do the following to all of our clocks:
- Disassemble the entire clock and movement completely.
- Install new US made parts on the movement if needed (main springs and pendulum suspension rods).
- Bush all worn pivot holes with high quality burgeon bronze bushings as needed.
- Clean the entire movement using Environment friendly cleaners.
- Clean the original dial careful not to alter its original condition.
- Clean bezel, parts and chime rods by hand.
- Reassemble the clock, oil and lube in the proper places.
- Adjust chime and strike hammer sequence properly to assure smooth and even strikes.
- Inspect and adjust every minor detail of the clock assuring full function and peak performance for many years to come.
