Up for “adoption” is this Serviced Vintage Singer 221 FeatherweightSewing Machine.
Serial number AL720869 dates this machine to April 22, 1954. She will be celebrating her 63rd birthday next month!
The machine has an original graduated needle plate and rare prism decals. These decals were only used for about 3 years, plus only one batch of 50,000 machines was made in this year.
I offer over 10 years experience servicing sewing machines! I also list all \"detailed\" positives and negatives, so there are no surprises when your machine arrives. This machine is good for any \"household\" application. I even provide a performance video showing this machine in operation!
The motor has been rebuilt and the machine has been serviced and is 100% functional! Please read the steps that I perform on each machine sold as \"Serviced\". All of the machines I sell also get inspected for electrical hazards.
The following steps were taken when servicing this machine and rebuilding the motor:

motor brushes cleaned, inspected and replaced if necessary
commutator contacts cleaned and polished
motor electrically tested to be balanced with no dead or questionable zones
motor wires inspected and replaced to the coil, if necessary
shafts lubricated
10 minute full load burn in test - ensures motor runs strong and does not emit odors or excessive heat
run \"full speed\" test on 4 layers of denim to ensure it does not miss any stitches
main drive belt inspected and replaced if necessary
all internal electrical connections secured and electrical contacts cleaned
all adjustment screws are tightened and any missing screws/parts replaced with original Singer screws/parts
heavy build-up removed from the bobbin case, hook assembly and feed dog
needle bar height and timing checked
lubricate all pivot points and moving parts
lint removed
verify feed dog position and functionality
verify the machine is 100% functional according to User\'s manual

This belt driven machine has been properly cleaned and oiled. It is 100% functional! The timing was checked and it sews well, please see the picture of the stitch. I even took the hook assembly and bobbin case apart and cleaned them. I inspected and tightened all electrical connectors to ensure all connections are good and do not pose any risk. The foot pedal was also electrically cleaned. It is tested on a 4 layers of denim and it sewed fine forward and reverse. The stitch is equal on both sides. Overall, the machine is clean and in good condition. There are common signs of use with scratches on the bed and wear to the front edge decals. The black paint has some shine with visible scratches on the bed and extension bed. I tried to get a good picture of the scratches on the extension bed. The scratches are visible with offset light. The balance wheel has some chips around the outer edge. The balance wheel release knob has flaked chrome. The rest of the chrome pieces are good with scratches and mild wear. The graduated throat plate has a lot of fine scratches and some wear. The drive belt pictured will be replaced with a new lug (ribbed) belt will be installed before it ships. (I have not received the belt yet, but wanted to get this listing started). The rubber feet are good and the machine sits flat. The light works and passes the \"tap test\".
The foot pedal was opened and electrically cleaned. The cord has been replaced with a new cord. All electrical connections were checked to be secure. The bobbin winder works. A new lug belt will be installed before shipping. Note: the motor may run slightly slower than in the video until the new belt breaks in.
It comes with 4 bobbins, carry case and a set of Singer attachments as defined in the manual. The Singer motor lubrication is mostly used. There is no manual, but I will send a free pdf copy to the email linked to your account. The attachments were inspected and are in working order. They are in good condition. The attachment box has wear.

The carry case is solid and in good condition. It has some scuffs, scratches and mild wear. The inside is good with a patch where a label was. The handle, latch and hinges are in working condition. There is no key. There is a clip for the oil can and upper tray for the power cord. There are no musty odors. The case measures 14-1/2\" x 8-1/4\" and is 10-3/4\" tall, not including the handle.
