Set of 54 Large Oak or Chestnut Vintage Balusters--very striking:

I really wanted to use these balusters in my home, but they are too grand to fit with the rest of the house. Most vintage balusters are 1\" to 1-1/2\" at the base; these are over 2\". And the turnings are large throughout the baluster. The diameter of the turned feature at the top is a full 2\".
The lot includes:
--41 balusters that are 34\" long
--13 balusters that are 30\" long
As you can see from the picture the difference in length is all in the square base at the bottom. If I were to use these and need more than 41 the same length I would cut some oak stock and glue it on the bottom. Or I would do what I did with some balusters in my house--I would cut them between the squared part and the turned part and glue in a new, longer square block. With some careful sanding and staining no-one would ever see the splice notice.
I am not sure if these are oak or chestnut. I actually like chestnut better--it has a beautiful grain and wonderful color. Plus we will never be able to buy more chestnut so the only way to get it is from old building supplies. I have scraped off some of the paint so you can see the grain and judge for yourself. My house has a mixture of oak and chestnut and it all works together, so I don\'t know that it matters that much.
These are large balusters and weigh over 2 pounds each so shipping is priced accordingly. I am happy to arrange free local pickup or to work with you on shipping if you can find a cheaper alternative.
