This set jasper cameo plaques depict the kings of France and are individually numbered 1 - 63. They are extremely rare, I only found reference to their existence in a book titled \"Wedgwood\'s Catalogue of cameos, intaglios, medals bas-reliefs, busts and small statues, reprinted from the edition of 1787\". They were made during a time period when Josiah Wedgwood himself was still alive. They come in a fitted wood case, the case having some minor condition issues which includes some age splitting and loss of two feet. The plaques themselves have some minor discoloration and crazing that can be seen in the photos. Also it appears that number 19 is missing and had been replaced by a duplicate 39 at some point. There are a few impressed numbers that are smaller then the rest, however they are the correct kings, as they should be. The final one number 63 is error stamped with a 62 and is in fact Louis XIII as number 63 should be according to the catalogue reference. They measure approximately 7/8 of an inch by 5/8 of an inch.
I had sent photos to the Wedgwood Museum and there is their response-
\"...Medals - Kings of France (Class IX, Section III) were modelled by William Bedson from a set of heads from Lord Bessborugh\'s collection around 1775.There are actually 67 French Kings heads - the last four include Henri IV, Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. These last four were made in a variety of shapes and sizes after 1775, so I am inclined to think yours is perhaps an earlier set made from cream coloured ware...\".
