For your consideration is this absolutely stunning 8 day time and strike Seth Thomas Cottage Clock.
This clock came to me in pieces, having been dropped at some time. The case was coming apart at its joints, and the movement had a bent main time shaft.
I decided that while the case was apart it would be a good time to refinish it. The original shellac was removed, retaining the original stain color. The mahogony veneer was in very good condition over most of the case. The exceptions are shown in the photos. A fresh coat of hand-rubbed poly-urethane was applied, with a second coat added later. The case was re-glued, and re-assembled.
The movement was disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, main shaft straightened, reassembled, lubricated, and set in beat.
The original dial, with some obvious repairs done long ago, was installed with the original hands, and we have a very nice, strong running clottage clock. The movement was electronically timed, and set in beat, and runs great.
This is an eight day time and strike cottage clock, fully serviced, over one hundred years old, and ready for the next 100 years.
