NEW INFORMATION ON THIS CLOCK!!!

**** This was sent to me by cliffp333(11Yellow Star):I thought you might want to know what you’re selling. From the Pictures included in this sale, it looks like 1 of the 15 Seth Thomas Copies made by Marshall Brown from Auroa MS. in the 1970s.In1890 Seth Thomas made about twenty-five of these clocks. Fewer than ten havebeen found**** That leaves 10 clocks that have not yet been found. Even if it is a Marshall Brown Violin Clock, it can be worth upwards of $3000.00.

This very unusual mantel clock was purchased at an on-siteestate sale in southern Indiana. I bought several clocks that I will belisting over the next month. This one was made by the Seth Thomas Clock Companyof Thomaston, Connecticut (Marked with Label, See Photos). It is known as the “Violin”shelf clock, for obvious reasons.

When I bought this clock, I did not know anything about it. As a musician I just loved it. I quickly learned that they are very rare. There are, as with most things, reproductionsout there, and frankly, I do not know if this is one of them; except for the AuthenticSeth Thomas Label which you can see in the Photos. I also have photos of the clockworks (ST U.S.A. Stamped on it) and all other relevant parts of the clock.

From what I have been able to learn about the Violin clockis that the good Reproductions sell for as much as $3000.00 dollars. Authentic Violinclocks made by Seth Thomas have sold from $3700.00 to over $17,000.00. I have seensale estimates of, between $800.00 to $8,000.00. As I understand it this clockis not listed in any of the known Seth Thomas clock catalogs. From what I haveread Seth Thomas started making it, most likely, as a special order in oraround 1885.

It is obvious it was made in the form of a violin. This Violin Clock is made of walnut and as you can see in the photos has aged well with anamazing patina! The grain in the walnut is beautiful. The door is hinged on theright side and latches from the left. This glass is decorated with gold depictingmusical staffs and sheet music. The Detail on this clock is also beautiful withcarvings which were applied to the front surfaces and are in excellent originalcondition. The head stock of the Violin neck is also hand carved. The Violin isupright on a base with four (4) wooden feet.

This Violin clock is in excellent condition with the normalwear of a vintage clock. As pictured, you can see stress marks (splits in thewood, probably from dryness) in the wood. Again, they are all pictured. Lookslike 6 or so. They are not glaring so look closely at each photo. It comeswith pendulum and key. The label is pasted inside the case and reads“MANUFACTUERD BY / Seth Thomas Clock Company / THOMASTON, CONN., / U. S. A.” Thiscase measures About 29 inches tall, 13 5/8 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches deep.

It has been running since I bought it. Strikes on the hourand once on the half hours. As with most vintage clocks, it may need a professionalcleaning, and tune up (especially after shipping). I spare no expense on packingand shipping. The most important part of the transaction is that it arrives safely. It will also be insured for the full amount of the purchase. All Claims will have to be initiated at yourend. If the box comes and you see damage tell the delivery professional to waitwhile you open it.
