Additional notes:
Original etching was executed in the 1600\'s. This impression after the original is well more than 130 years old. Published 1873. We have found these same etchings (although many that we found were modern day reprints and not prints from the 1800\'s like we are selling - Most of the modern versions are on a heavy cream colored wove paper and although the quality is nice, the plates have been reworked to the point that the image has lost the \"look and feel\" of the original Rembrandt etching) on gallery websites for obscene asking prices.
Extra Information:
A crowd of people greet Mordecai who is on horseback with a turbaned figure in front of him. Through an archway can be seen a building with a cupola. The left of the archway is shaded while the right side of the image is bathed in light.
Artist Biography:
Rembrandt van Rijn was a Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, possessing an exceptional ability to render people in their various moods and dramatic guises. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favored an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty.
