NATIVEGOLD QUARTZSPECIMENfrom SIERRA NEVADA MTNS. CALIFORNIA
Ruler is 1/4\" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter.
Specimen weight:.17 Gram - 2.7 Grains Size: 5X3.4X3.2 mmThis tiny gem of white quartz ore hails from the rich Mother Lode mines. My prices aren\'t based upon how much gold is contained buton the attractiveness ofthese unique specimens. The fact that gold is actually visible in the quartz makes them infinitely more collectible than your run-of-the-mill quartz. When viewed in that light, you\'ll see that my prices aren\'t unreasonable. This piece isn\'t large, but it\'s loaded with gold, authentic, and will look phenomenal in a clear water-filled vial.

It had been a long trek backinto the boonieson foot, so I was pretty excited bythe discovery. Taking my concentrates back to camp, my partner\'s children and I panned out about 3/4 oz. of nice nuggets and pickers. To make a long story short,a couple ofdays later, I returned from a logistics run in Yuma only to be confronted withanintolerable situation. My partner, not bothering to consult with the co-owners of the claim, took it upon himself to form an alliance witha heavy equipment operator. Then, theyproceeded, for convenience sake, tocut a road with a D8 Caterpillar right smack dab down the middle of my newly-prospected wash. In the process, they had the entire natural topography of the wash was obliterated. Nothing in the way the wash had looked before now remained. If you know anything about placerprospecting small desert washes, you\'ll realize that reading the lay of the land is one of the most important components there is.It\'s a prospecting lesson which takes years to learn.I knew it, but apparently my anxious friends saw no need to consult me. In these remote diggings, amongst a claim group encompassing roughly 6000 acres, my partner andhis newfoundassociates were having a field dayextending my hole invarious directionsas they futilely searchedfor the paystreak. There was one very large D8 Cat and two othervehicles parked nearby. The road made it all very convenient, you understand.Ironically, theyfound about enough goldtofill a gnat\'s eye. Call it justice. Call it karma.I call it luckytofind outwhat kind of partner I had at this early stage of our association. The worst of his escapades were yet to come, but, by that time, I was history and thank heavens am still here to tell the tale.

PICK HANDLES

\'The gravel along that creek was so rich and the gulch so narrow that the local mining rules stated \"a placer claim across the gulch shall be no wider than the distance the miner can reach with his pick handle.\" This led to the story that Susanville miners had the longest pick handles in the world.
