Compressed pear shape, dome top, low pedestal foot. \"G. Richardson\" touch mark on bottom. Mark is shown in fig 307 of J. B. Kerfoot\'s American Pewter, where one of Richardson\'s sugar bowls appears as the frontispiece & other pieces, including a 7\" teapot are shown in figure 306. His mark is also shown in fig 237 of Carl Jacob\'s American Pewter (1957). One of Richardson\'s coffee pots appears as frontispiece to Katherine Ebert\'s Collecting American Pewter, where his mark is shown p.140.
This piece was probably made c.1828-1838. Richardson was born in England in 1782 & worked pewter in Boston from 1818 to 1828 & in Cranston, Rhode Island thereafter until his death in 1848.
Hinge pin of lid is broken. Base edge worn. Spout tip with distortion. Minor dents.
