Description: Attractive Wisconsin War Fund receipt, signed by Fairchild as Secretary of State (governor-elect) Dec. 22,1865, just slightly more than one week before being sworn in as governor. Document is good, with clear, clean signature. Fairchild distinguished himself as a leader particularly during Antietam and Seminary Ridge, lost his arm shortly afterward and was commissioned Brigadier General by Lincoln.
