Art Deco era Silver Crest bronze box. This beautiful piece features bronze metal, thick wood interior lining and a distinctly arts and crafts movement design. The handle will stand upright or lay flat. Age: as indicated by the hallmark, this piece is circa 1920\'s Hallmarks: it is marked Silver Crest, SMA Co (Smith Metals Arts, see below), Decorated Bronze and the number 2253. Measurements: the exterior measurements are approximately 6-1/4\" long x 3-1/2\" wide x 1-1/4\" tall. The handle is approximately 2-1/4\" tall x 1/2\" thick. The interior height is approximately 1\" tall. Condition: it is in overall good condition consistent with age. You can expect a general level of wear (please review photos carefully). This piece is over 80 years old and with that there are some imperfections. One of the lids is not perfectly flush (see photo #3), but it does not affect the look and use. The metal has a speckled look. This could be an intended design element or just patina with age. The interior wood looks good with some minor spots of discoloration. The hinge appears tight and secure. Hallmark Origin: the Smith Metal Arts Company of Buffalo, New York was founded in 1889 by German immigrant Otto Heintz. After Heintz\' death in 1918, the company was purchased by Frederick Smith and became known as Smith Metal Arts. SMA produced a variety of items under the Silvercrest trademark, including desk accessories, vases, candle sticks, bowls and smoking accessories.
