We are listing this superb set of six fancy 1800s Northern European silver (probably sterling, but untested) apostle terminal serving spoons by a silversmith that I have not been able to identify. Apostle spoons were first introduced in the 1500s and 1600s, primarily in Germany and England. Apostle terminals included representations of Jesus, his twelve apostles, and other saints, and they obviously were tied to the Christian religion, during a period when it was undergoing great changes. These spoons have the classic apostle spoon shapes with rounded bowls (with short rat tails on their backs), fancy twisted and decorated handles, and six different wonderful apostle terminals (I will not attempt to identify which figures are represented). The spoons are all marked on the back of their bowls with the same three partially rubbed marks, the letter Q, the letters S/T, and a the cursive letter H with a crown above it (I have seen the Q and S/T marks on other Northern European spoons from the 1800s, but I am not sure of the actual meaning of any of these marks). The spoons are approximately 7.25 inches long, have bowls almost 2 inches across, weigh a total of 13 ounces, have very fancy handles and wonderful apostle terminals, and they are in very good condition (a few tiny tarnish spots on the bowls, and a small repair on the back of one handle where it joins the bowl - see the middle spoon in the last picture).
