SMALL EARLY 19TH CENTURY HOUSE & ALPHABET SAMPLER BY HANNAH HARRAP 1824:

Small early 19th century linen and silk work sampler by Hannah Harrap - 1824. This little sampler is just delightful with neat stitch work throughout. The top half of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters numbers and border patterns, finishing with the letters XYZ with date of 1824 below them and Hannah\'s name on either side. The bottom half of the linen is stitched at the centre with a charming little house sat on a hill. To its left is a black dog, trees and birds, whilst to its right is a flower basket, a stag and birds.The linen has virtually no discolouration with a small faint stain by the flower basket and a couple of small pulls in the same area. The colours of the silks are very good with a small amount of missing stitch work to the flower basket and some bleeding to the green stitching. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and shows there is very little difference in the colour from the front to the back. As can also be seen on this photograph, there are some small remnants of paper around the edges of hte linen where the sampler has been glued down at some point of time.
