Original, scarce antique American-made socket bayonet of the post-Revolutionary War era.
This is a Charleville-style blade with the mark of Daniel Gilbert of North Brookfield, Massachusetts.
This mark has been noted on the lock plates of Daniel Gilbert’s muskets that were made for his 1798 contract.

Daniel Gilbert was a Captain in the Massachusetts militia during the Revolutionary War.
Made for a musket with bayonet lug on top of the barrel. The 2 5/8” long socket has a 3 step mortise, no bridge.
The triangular Charleville-style blade is 13” long. There is no fuller in the top blade face.
It’s typical of those made for the 1798 contracts. Daniel Gilbert’s bayonets are rare.
It has a dark patina. Condition as seen in photos.
