Inlaid wood work jewelry box,an antique tradition that goes on in Sorrento,Italy for a long time.Unfortunally today there are just few artists left making this kind of Art in Sorrento cause it takes a lot of time and it\'s not really profitable.Back 50 years ago Sorrento was full of Wood workers but then with life getting more expensive most of the wood workers decided to invest in different jobs specially related to the turist industry.Most of the people that does this work now,does it mostly as an hobby.Now i\'m going to explain the prcess briefly.Each piece takes beetween 48and 60 hours to be done and most of the time goes for letting the glue and paliurity to dry.(Paliurity is a clear coat that you spray on top after the work is done to protect the Wood.but let\'s take this by steps:

-The 1st step is to create a design by drawing it

-the second step is to pile up the design with slices of veneer in different color

-then using a scroll saw cut all the pieces out of the design

-Then they put all the pieces back together like a puzzle,using different color of veneer pieces and they create the design like the one drawed,holded by a piece of musking tape.

-the next step is to glue the design on a piece of wood and then wait for the glue to dry.

-The last step is about spraying the pieces with clear coats of paliurity(a wood sealant and conservant) that can go beetween 5 coats and 7 depends on the quality and dryness of the wood,and of course ther is a period for the coats to dry so beetween each coat there is a waiting time of at least 12 hours.With this process the wood pieces will stay in place forever.
