The badge is of VERY high quality: in gilded brass and fie“hot baked” enamels, of three-piece construction; measures 46.4 mm tall x 26.3mm wide. Nicely sculptured details of the palm fronds and Soviet state seal.

The badge is in GREAT condition. The enamel is perfect, freeof flaking, chips or noticeable scratches. The enamel is completely original,without any repairs. The gilt finish on the palm fronds and state emblem isstill present and clearly visible, although it has minimal amount of verdigris whichadds character. There are also some oxidation spots on the reverse, notdetractive. The attachment wires are nice and tight. The screw post is originaland full length, approx. 10mm. In comes with original screw plate showingSoviet mint logo.

The IMO Institute was an elite establishment whose graduateswent on to occupy much coveted positions in the Soviet Diplomatic Corps. Somewere privileged children of top Soviet bureaucrats, but many were undercoverKGB and GRU officers slated for service abroad. Therefore, this badge may belegitimately considered one of the few true badges of the Soviet espionageservices.
