This is a 1598 Spanish 2 Sous countermarked with the head of Saint James. An unusual coin that appears to be made of Billon or Silver. Measures about 22mm. Has a man standing on the Obv. (holding a lamb?) with the Flag behind. Rev. has a coat of arms with the date (1)598 in angles. The \"1\" is not there because of the countermark. Also some scratches on the standing figure. The old holder states Perpignan on it and there is a large \"P\" on the Obv. We tried several times to research this but with no results. Decided to list this on to see if any of our buyers know the origin. Anyway, this should be a solid value at our low opening offer. Please see the photos to judge the condition of the item.
