Star Trek Pistol Phaser S&W Fiberglass Midgrade Kit With All Metal Parts Included
I got a couple of these interesting and rare kits from Shanko.Pictures show a painted unit. Kit parts shipped unpainted.
From the original listing years ago this kit is described in detail. This fiberglass phaser prop replica is the rare and sought after S&W replica that is based on screen used phasers. You can\'t get more accurate than this phaser.Made of plastic, metal, fiberglass and acrylic, this kit includes everything but glue and paint. You can own the same type of phaser used in most episodes on TV.Just like the phaser Captain Kirk and his crew used.Made by Ron Shanko after examining and studying the remaining existing original phasers. This kit is easy to build and fun to paint. The kit comes unpainted, and ready to glue, putty and paint. All parts shown are included unpainted. This kit produces a fiberglass phaser like the originals. This is a very rare kit, only a few were made.We are offering some old pieces collected over the years so they can be out in the world for others to enjoy. We will be listing several from this collection.
The interesting history of the S&W Midgrade phaser and how it came to be.
In 2006, in the San Francisco bay area, Ron Shanko made some fiberglass phasers from a wood master he made molds of and although not the most accurate thing, the fiberglass body phaser was like the original ones used on TV.Striving for perfection he then reshaped his master and made new molds of a more accurate version he called the V3. Although the V3 was a very successful run, things would change soon, because after Ron examined the first known to be an original midgrade P2 and an original Midgrade P1 (along with the Alpha hero communicator) at the home of the \"West coast Collector\" he knew what a real one looked like and he took lots of pics and measurements. It all happened like this.Ron had met the West coast Collector a year before when he came with Darrell Hyde over to visit Ron and show off props. Darrell was a very good friend of Ron\'s.The two collectors visited Ron in San Rafael and Darrell brought a box of props to show him and since Darrell recently had the misfortune of finding out the tricorder he purchased as an original TOS prop was proven to be a good replica, and Ron wanted to show the guys some of his props, it promised to be a fun day.Anyway, Darrell opens the box and gets out this communicator that was wrapped up carefully in cloth and hands it to Ron and he says \"What do you think?\"It looked like an original, but the second Ron saw it he knew that he had made it years ago and sold it to an East Coast Collector and amazingly it found its way back to his hands so many years later after having been sold several times. The following weekend,Ron visited the workshop in a nearby town that the two shared and saw Darrell finishing up the P1 for the ILM Midgrade phaser kits he was making. He only got the P2 body that was molded from an original by ILM, so he had to create the P1 and grip. Those resin kits were a success, although the phaser was under sized due to being cast several times and the slight shrinking of each cast.Unfortunately Darrel passed away later that year. This initial friendship led to the S&W Midgrade phaser being made when Ron found out that the same West Coast Collector he knows was actually the owner of an original Midgrade phaser and a hero communicator.A date was set for a prop party, and a select few guys were invited to bring props and see props including the original phaser and communicator.Todd Mustachio (who Ron was friends with before) came up from Fresno and Dennis Stines flew in from N Carolina and Nelson A. and a few others all got together to see the original props.A barb-Q was made and they drank beer in a very festive Environment.Ron left with measurements and tons of pics. He was really ready to create a new phaser totally accurate and just like the one that he saw.Carving an entire new and sleeker phaser out of wood using the measurements and picture documentationbegan. At the same time, Ron was talking about this with his friend in Los Angeles, Steven Wright who shared the same enthusiastic desire to have a copy of the original phaser.Steve told Ron that one night 2 men came to his door and quickly and quietly brought a small box into his place and that the box had a midgrade P2 (the zolar) and a stunt p1 for him to examine. It was an exciting night for Steve. The men quietly left with the priceless box and Steve set about making his own one of a kind midgrade replica.Ron was doing the same and they agreed on collaboration.Instead of making one exact replica, copies would be made from molds.Steve sent Ron 3 of his best modified P2 bodies he had been working on and to save time by redoing his replica to be exactly right instead of carving out of wood a new body from scratch, Ron informed Steve that one of his bodies he made from his measurements and pics and hands on info was close enough to be used.Ron returned the other 2 phasers and cut the one he saw was close to being accurate in pieces and changed everything a little bit.Like making the sharp back, refining the side ribs, the P1, the trigger box and he reworked the shape, including the bottom lines.Ron made a new grip, a diamond shaped midgrade phaser grip... Like Darrell\'s that he included with his ILM phaser kits.He then made molds and fiberglass and we have the Shanko & Wright, the S&W Midgrade.
Interestingly, Ron has since made a hero phaser mold and used it for his 20 working hero phasers that he is finishing.Ron sent Steve a bunch of fiberglass kits for his contributed efforts. As a side note, that weekend of the prop party we saw Todd Mustachio and Dennis Stines made molds of Alpha for Stines\' communicator kit. When Ron asked, the West Coast Collector said that he will never allow the phaser to be molded. He just doesn\'t want a bunch of copies of his own phaser out there.Ron told all this online. We all know all the names except that we keep the West Coast Collectors name private at his request. Enjoy your accurate midgrade replica. We do the best we can to ship fast, however delays can happen, due to weather.$10 Shipping in the USA Only - USPS Priority, Fully Insured, with Tracking Numbers .International buyers contact us first for shipping price.Satisfaction Guaranteed.Thank you
