Stunning 19th C Daoguang period Chinese dragon plate
Impressive Chinese blue and white dragon plate / dishThis is a very impressive Chinese porcelain plate decorated with cobalt blue under glaze decoration. The plate dates from the 19th C, most likely the Daoguang period (1820-50) and depicts two fighting dragons among branches and flowers, all surrounded by a geometric border. The plate is in near perfect condition, with only some very, very tiny chips and a very small hairline crack. See condition notes and images for more information. The plate has been marked with an accession or entry number. I have not tried to rub it off, but in general these are easily removed (though, as it is now part of the item’s history, I recommend leaving it on the item).Dimensions
Diameter: 240mm (9 ½ inches)Condition and notes
Very good condition. Two tiny chips to the rim, each less than ½ mm deep (1/50th of an inch). A hairline crack possibly only to the glaze as it is not visible from the front. This is 18mm long (7/10th of an inch). There is an accession or entry number written by hand on the back.Summary
Overall this is a very rare item. An asset to any serious collection of Chinese blue and white porcelain.
