This is a beautiful Victorian Natural Shell Cameo depicting a Bacchante (a follower of Bacchus the God of Wine) set in a fine solid 9ct Gold Brooch mount, with a plaited rope twist decoration around the edge(please see the detailed close-upphotographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).
This wonderful antique Cameo is finely carved and depicts a Bacchante with vine leaves & grapes in her hair.

The carving is crisp and clean and her lovely face is beautifully defined as are the finest details of each vine leaf & grape. Her nose is typically Greek in theclassicalstyle and her mouth is full and sensual; this subject was a very popular one with Victorians.

This very fine quality Cameo Brooch is stamped \'9ct\' near the hinge (please see photographs) confirming that it is made from solid 9ct Gold i.e it is not gold plated.As can be seen in the photographs overall the Brooch is in great condition, with no splits, chips or damage and only very light wear commensurate with age.
This superb antique Cameo Brooch has the following dimensions: it is approx\' 2.7cms long & approx\' 1.9cms wide and it weighs: 4.5 grams.
