I consider this Lovely Work of Art to be in Excellent Original Vintage Condition. The bottom show negligible shelf wear. Please checkpictures for further description. Some of this Wonderful Paperweights Fascinating History

This Art GlassPaperweight is from the late William Gaskill’s Cherished Collection. Mr.Gaskill was a former President of the National Paperweight CollectorsAssociation (PCA) and an avid and very astute Art Glass Paperweight Collector.After His passing, his collection was on loan (for approximately 3 years from2006 to 2009) to the Museum of American Glass (Wheaton Village) in Millville,NJ, which is now known as Wheaton Village Arts and Cultural Center. Mr.Gaskills highly regarded and very extensive Art Glass Paperweight Collectionwas on display in their most prominent area of the Museum at that time.

Just prior to being puton display at the Museum, Lawrence Selman of the Renown L.H. Selman wascommissioned to do an appraisal of the entire collection. Mr. Selman is knownworldwide for his expertise in the field of Art Glass Paperweights and in 2001,Selman was awarded the honor of being named by the Paperweight CollectorsAssociation, one of the Top Ten People of the 20thCentury toinfluence the paperweight art form.

Mr. Gaskill’s collectionwas considered to be one of the largest gatherings of Antique American ArtGlass Paperweights known to be in private hands. In 2009 a family member tookpossession of the entire collection and it went safely and quietly into storagefor approximately 6 years, from 2009 to 2015.

In 2016 I was very proudand honored to have had the opportunity to acquire a large portion of Mr.Gaskill’s Wonderful and Cherished Art Glass Paperweight Collection. Many ofWilliam’s Amazing Pieces will stay in my personal collection for safe keep, butwith sadness some will be offered up for sale here on over the nextseveral months from his Fine Collection. ShortHistory:Baccarat

Baccarat Crystalis a French manufacturer of fine crystalglasswarelocated in Baccarat, France. The company owns two museums: theMusee Baccaratin Baccarat, Meurthe-et-Moselleand the Musee BaccaratinParis on the Place des Etats-Unis.

1764-1816

In 1764 King Louis XV of Francegave permission to found aglassworksin the town ofBaccarat in the Lorraine region in Eastern France toPrince Bishop CardinalLouis-Joseph de Laval-Montmorecy(1710-1802).Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when thefirst crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers wereemployed at the site.

1817-1867

Baccarat received its first royal commissionin 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royaltyand heads ofstate throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medalatthe Fairin Paris. Baccarat first began marking its work with a registeredmarkin 1860. The mark was a label affixed to the bottom of the work. Inthe period 1846-1849 Baccarat signed some of their high quality glassmillefiori paperweightswith the letter B and the year date in a compositecane. A special paperweight dated 1853 was found under the cornerstone of abomb damaged church in Baccarat when construction recommenced after World War2. The crystal production expanded its scope throughout this period, andBaccarat built a worldwide reputation for making quality stemware, chandeliers,barware, and perfume bottles.

1867-1936

The Imperial Era ended in 1867 with the defeat of Napoleon III.Influences outside France began to have a stronger influence on Baccarat\'s workduring this era, particularly imports from Japan. The world\'s largestchandelier and a staircase lined with a Baccarat crystal balustrade adorn theDolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. Strong growth continued in Asia for Baccarat.Baccarat has become quite famous at the royal houses, the Queen of Portugal,for example, commissioned for her private collection decorative pieces andtableware (currently exhibited in the Ajuda National Palace). One of the strongest production areas forBaccarat was perfume bottles, and by 1907 production was over 4000 bottles perday. In 1936 Baccarat began marking all of its works via acid or sandblasting.

1936-present[

Baccarat created an American subsidiary in 1948 in New YorkCity. They started to produce pieces based on Cylon designs, as the famousCylon Carrier - Napoleon Hat piece (1958). The chairman of Baccarat from 1960to 1992 was René de Chambrun, former Vichy France\'s Prime Minister Pierre Laval’sson-in-law.

As of 2010 there are stores in Costa Mesa, California; Houston,Texas; Greenwich; New York City; Palm Desert, California; and Las Vegas. Aretrospective was held in 1964 at the Louvre Museumto celebrate the 200thanniversary of the crystal works. In 1993, Baccarat began making jewelry and in1997 the company expanded into perfume. In 2003, Baccarat relocated to 11,place des Etats-Unis in Paris.

In 2005 it was acquired by Starwood Capital Groupin theUnited States. In 2012 Starwood announced it would use the name for a luxuryhotel chain \"Baccarat Hotels and Resorts\" which will featurecompany\'s crystal chandeliers.
