FICTION: This is a tale of a well dressed gentlemen from New England, born of a line directly to the Pilgrims, who was a Traveling Salesmen, selling men\'s dress shoes. He believed in his business, but frequented the gambling tables one too many times in his life and couldn\'t fight the urge to play the cards. He liked the cards and could count them well. He carried this special Snuff Box given to him from his wife, where ever he went. He had two kids and a wife and struggled to live the family life. He thought, settle down, raise a family, live a normal life, but its wasn\'t enough for him. So he traveled the country, writing his wife and kids and sending money home when he would win, and he would win often. Because he was cheating on the cards. I see a \"Carl\" in the first name on the cartouche. And \"Felchin\" on the last part. So Carl Felchin was a gambler. And like many men, he liked the Snuff, but kept his box clean. Its 1853 near Kern River in California, the Gold Boom had just taken off and his oldest son is a man, now at the age of 18. His daughter is soon to be married at 16. He hasn\'t seen them in 3 years. He\'s playing cards and sporting a new jacket. His trusty Ace of Spades falls out of his sleeve and lands on the floor. The men stop, look at the card and the man across the table with a scar on his face points a revolver at Carl. A bead of sweat drops from his forehead, and he pictures his wife and children. There\'s a loud bang, and things go black, and the favored snuff box falls from his hand to the floor. The man with the scar on his face, picks it up, cleans out Carl\'s pockets and rides off heading South.ITEM: Superb Antique Thomas Shaw, Solid Silver Snuff Box from Birmingham, 1839. .925 Grade Silver with Hallmarks indicating it was created in 1839.
