Superb Antique c 1823 English Georgian Sterling Silver & Cut Glass 8pc Cruet Set

Presented is a wonderful English Georgian sterling silver and cut glass cruet set. The stand was made by Joseph Angell I, and dates to 1823. The set has a mustard or condiment jar with a notched lid for a serving spoon, two shakers or casters with silver lids, two larger glass bottles with stoppers, and two smaller glass bottles, one of which has a silver spoon attached to the stopper. The mustard jar and the two smaller glass bottles are original to the stand, while the casters and likely the larger glass bottles are a marriage, though they match nicely in style. The stand is done in an ornate design, with a gadrooned rim and shell and foliate decoration at the four corners, matching the round handle in the center. The feet are done in a handsome paw form, with bold foliate, scroll and florette designs where they meet the body.

The set consists of:

  • 2 casters: 6 3/8 inches tall.
  • 1 mustard/condiment jar: 4 7/8 inches tall.
  • 2 smaller glass bottles: 4 5/8 inches tall.
  • 2 larger glass bottles: 5 5/8 inches tall.
  • 1 stand: 8 by 5 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches, LxWxH.

The stand is hallmarked along the side at the bottom with the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter h for 1823, the leopard\'s head for the city of London, King George IV\'s head duty mark, and the maker\'s mark for Joseph Angell I. The center portion of the stand is also hallmarked with the lion passant, the date letter h, and King George IV\'s duty mark. The mustard jar is hallmarked on the collar with the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter h for 1823, the leopard\'s head for the city of London, King George IV\'s head duty mark, and the maker\'s mark for Joseph Angell I. The lid of the mustard jar is also hallmarked on the side with the lion passant, the date letter h, and the maker\'s mark for Joseph Angell I. The silver spoon attached to the stopper of one of the smaller glass bottles is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter h for 1823, King George IV\'s head duty mark, and the maker\'s mark for Joseph Angell I. The two shakers or casters are hallmarked on the side of the lid with the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter T for 1814, King George III\'s head duty mark, and a maker\'s mark that is partially rubbed, beginning with W.

This set is in great overall condition. The glass bottles have some fleabites here and there, but are in good shape, with no breaks and no repairs. The silver has no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
