Superb Matched Pair of 1951 Royal Worcester Fruit Vases by Kitty Blake:

Here for your consideration is an exquisite matched pair of Royal Worcester, fruit, ovoid, four lobed vases, hand painted and signed by Kitty Blake, in 1951. These stunning vasesdepict ripe blackberries in floral foliage with stylisedtendrilsset in relief, inverted gilt neck, and gold gilt line borders.

Condition, no chips, cracks, scratches, fleabites, crazing or restoration. Just a lovely matched pair of Royal Worcester vases. They do have some age related base wear, commensurate with age, but nothing unusual.

The bases have the black printed crown and circle marks for Royal Worcester, and also both vases have the date letter \'W\' and one dot for 1951. As you can imagine, quite rare to find an undamaged matched pair of vases, that have remained together for 64 years.

Kitty Blake ...

Kitty Blake workedat the Royal Worcester factory for 48 years from 1905 until 1953. Shespecialised in flowers and small fruits. She also created several designsfeaturing blackberries and buttercups. Kitty Blakepreviously spent timeat James Hadley’s factory in Diglis Road and her Hadley style rendering ofbunches of blackberries have become the Kitty Blake signature pieces. They aremouth-wateringly real and are very much sought-after by collectors.

Like so many otherfamous ceramic painters, Kitty Blakecame from an artistically talentedfamily, her brother Edward worked for the Locke factory as a painter ofPheasants. Kitty was seen as a team player with a goodsense of humour andbecame very popular at the Royal Worcester factory.She was considered to be a bit of a live wire in her younger daysand amember of thesaucy six (female workers)who would terrorise any malestaff that upset them.

Kitty Blake was aleading light in this group and they made their presence felt bothinsideand outside the Royal Worcester factory. Shewas quite adriving force at the Worcester factory throughout hertime.She wouldspend some of her spare time making advertising posters for eventsheldwithin theRoyal Worcester works,also famous forherred lipstick and always having a cigarette on the go.

This is a rare opportunity to own a truly superb matched pair of fruit vases, in fabulous condition by one of Royal Worcester most renowned artists.
