Superb Victorian Silver Plated Novelty Chamber Candlestick Owl Vesta Antique:

Utterly charming Victorian novelty silver plated chamber candlestick the base formed as a large leaf with fluting to form the veins. A fancy scrolled handle with thumb rest curves down into the base with finely hammered textured leaves folding around it before rising up in a coil to mount the candle holder. A vesta as a beautifully cast owl figure perches on the handle, with a hinge to open the head to store matches. A further branch off the holder bracket ends in a little hook where the original bell shaped snuffer hangs. Possible continental, the base is marked 780 and with a punch marked V a few times over which looks like a maker\'s mark but I cannot find who this might be. Great quality, the fineness of the casting is very high and the attention to detail of the intimacies of the design is superb.

It measures 7\" long, 3 1/2\" wide and 2 3/4\" high. Condition is very good with no damage and light surface wear, just a touch of patina coming. The hinge on the owl head is a little loose but I think this may just be as there isn\'t an obvious way to tighten.
