This is a superb antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish agate brooch. All the stones are genuine agates that have been tested to confirm this, and have been beautifully matched.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The beautiful stones are classic brown and white banded agates from Scurdie ness.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces of this period, but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The width is 3.8 cm ( One and a half inches ) and the C clasp and pin are in good working condition and original.
