This is a superb large antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver and Scottish gemstone kilt pin or large brooch.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The superb stones are classic grey banded agate from Montrose , orange jaspers from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire, and green and red speckled bloodstone from the Isle of Rum. The top facetted stone along with the finial stones are all champagne citrines from the Cairngorm mountain range and have been fully tested by a local jeweller to confirm they are genuine citrines.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for piece from this period but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is large at 6.4 cm ( Just over two and a half inches ) and the pin and C clasp are original and in good working condition.
