Based on the works of Hiroshige Ando about 150 years ago , with rhymed comments in original Japanese Y. Goyahiki , and translated into English by S. Kato . Covers with some mild wear and rubbing , small loss to the tips . From the Introduction : \"The means of communication and transportation in Japan at that time were still in the infancy . People walked on this long highway to go to Kyoto from Yedo ( the present-day Tokyo) for a distance of more than 300 miles . It took nearly two weeks to reach the end of the journey on foot . Hiroshige loved the journey so much that he trod up and down the road many times . With his brush and sketch-book in pocket he drew from life what the genius saw with his own eyes .
