\"THE LAW OF THE HIGHER POTENTIAL\" BY ROBERT COLLIER.

Fromearly childhood Robert Collier was destined for the Ministry. From the time he was six years old his education was planned with that one thought in view, And for twelve years he lived and breath in an atmosphere of religious study. His uncle P. F. Collier (founder and publisher ofCollier\'s Weekly), had similar ambitions in his earlier youth, and failing in them he wanted a clergyman in the family. And his young nephew was picked for the honor. So you can imagine the family furor when young Collier decided that alife of such piety as he conceived to be necessary, was more than he was fitted for. Prayer after prayer in endless repetition-if he couldn\'t keep his mind on it at that early stage, what chance would he have through all the later years? Prayer, you see, as it was taught him, was merely endless repetition of certain formulas which after a time come to be meaningless. Is it any wonder that the idea of carrying this on through the years seemed appalling to his youthful mind?

So hegave up all thought of taking Holy Orders, and since his knowledge of life thus far had been confined entirely to the pages of books, he decided to study for a while his fellow man instead. And as though just an ordinary Environment would not have been enough of a change, he secured a position at a West Virginia coal mine, where life in those days was about as rough as anywhere in the world. He studied Mining Engineering, He worked in the mines and through the mountains. He prospected back in the mountains miles away from any railroad. He made good. And he learned nature.

For eight years he devoted himself tomining and men. Satisfied at last, he came to New York and for ten years worked in the publishing business, part of the time with the company his uncle had founded, part withthe Review of Reviews. Thus far he had done nothing remarkable. He was studying. Gaining valuable experience. Earning a good salary. In short, he was reasonable successful-but headed nowhere in particular. Then came a jolt that changed everything-a serious attack of ptomaine poisoning. Doctors presently relieved the acute pain, put him on a liquid diet and told him that in a couple of weeks he might expect to eat a little gruel. Collier followed his regimen faithfully, but the moment he started on solid foods. back came the acute pains and violent retchingworse than ever.

That kept up for a couple of months, though treatments ever more various and expensive, until he became so desperate he felt he would try anything. It was then some friends suggested the efficacy of psychology and metaphysics. Collier had no particular faith in it, but he had reached the stage where he wanted to \"get well or do something,\" so he gave it a tryout-and, wonder of wonders-was immediately and completely cured.

That didn\'t \"convert\" him, however. He didn\'t rush to join any cult, He didn\'t feel that he\'d been saved by a miracle. He knew there was an entirely natural explanation. And he set out to find that explanation. But one thing he did feel-that if mind could so quickly and surely cure a trouble that doctors had been working over for two months, then there must be powers in it he had never even suspected. And if it had dominion over his physical self, why couldn\'t it cure business troubles, too? Why couldn\'t it correct any financial lack? Why couldn\'t it bring him anything of good he might wish?

Collier decided that it could-and proceeded to find the way. For long months it was just books, books, books. Hundreds of books and courses and lectures on everything related to the subject. Whole religions seemed to be built upon it. Yet all of these, in his thorough way, he studied. Though sometimes there seemed a terrific amount of chaff for a few grains of real wheat. It was a long time before he began to find parts that were really workable in every-day life. It was a long time before he could get tangible results from his efforts. But when results did begin, they came quickly.

The first big success was in locating a new position. Nothing particularly wrong with the one he had except that it was already paying him the maximum salary ever drawn by anyone in his company. So, he set about mentally locating the next position in his scheme of things-- the next forward step in his upward progress. Well, it came. It came right out of a blue sky. Came from a company he had never even heard of. And the salary offered was nearly double what he was then getting. He took it, of course, He held it for several years. He bought stock in the company. Everything he turned his hand to prospered. For all the while he was studying. testing, trying out his theories in his work, on his friends, in his home-proving each one before he went on to the next.

A few yeas of this and he felt that he had provided enough to be able to pass on the results to others. Instead of just getting., he must now give, too. So, he wrote the 7 little volume of \"The Book Of Life,\" putting into them everything he had learned and tested and proved. He wrote a folder describing them and a letter to offer them. But it was not on the folder or letter that he depended for his real results. It was on the same power that had bought him his position, that had given him health, that had manifested all abundance.

With the power behind them, of course the books sold. Within six months Robert Collier received orders for more than a million dollars worth. Entirely too many to handle with the capital at his command, so he set the Man Inside him seeking a suitable partner. And in he walked one day, not only with unlimited funds, but with an experienced manager to take all the detail off Collier\'s hands, leaving him free for further writing.

That year Collier spent in revising and enlarging the books, bringing them out then under the title \"The Secret Of The Ages\"- another publisher having already put a set of books on the market called \"The Book Of Life.\" \"The Secret Of The Ages\" proved even more successful than the previous set (The Book Of Life). More detailed, more complete. its readers found it easier to grasp, easier to practice the ideas laid down in it.Now, itwas in its second year, orders for itwas flocking in so fast asto tax the capacity of the bindery to keep up withthem. Why? Because at last people had found a philosophy thatwas based not on mere theories, but on things practiced andproven. People young and old, people rich and poor, people of every position and occupationwas finding in these seven books the secret of health, the secret of success, the secret of happiness.

\"Through the faith inspired by your books, I have enjoyed a very substantial increase

in salary, won promotion in my chosen work and have built my body, from a rather

delicate frame, to 178lbs. of muscle.\"

C. W. S. , San Francisco, Calif.

There are many of letters of praise But, you\'ll never win such results merely by a hasty glimpse through the volumes. You can\'t sit on a dictionary or encyclopedia and absorb the knowledge it contains. You\'ve got to study and then practice. And if you want real results from this course, you must take one book at a time or one chapter at a time. It has taken you a good many years, you know, to acquire your present habits of mind and body. You can\'t change them over night. If you\'re driving a car over a narrow road and suddenly find you\'re going in the wrong direction, you can\'t just swig around at full speed. You have first to bring your car to a stop. Then turn around. Then start slowly in the other direction and gradually pick up speed.

That is what you will have to do in acquiring new mental habits-first stop going in the wrong direction-then learn the right direction-then learn the right way and turn-then gather speed a little at a time. You have a power inside you that can bring to you anything of good you may desire. You have a magnet in your subconscious mind that will draw to you anything right you may wish for. But that magnet has got to be charged. It has got to be magnetized before ever it can draw to you anything at all. The 7 booksor the single bookwill show you the way. They are easy reading-interesting reading. But don\'t let that fool you into dashing right through them. You\'ve got to make them yourown before you can get real results form them. You\'ve got to make them a part of your subconscious thought. And to do that you need not merely to read them, but to think back over each one to get it into your own words. Your own language, your own thought.

It is the subconscious conviction that counts-not your conscious will. But it you will approach these books as a study as you would approach anything else that offers you such wonderful returns, you will get from them anything good in life that you may desire. And you will get-not five, ten, or fifteen years from now, but now orin a matter of minutes, hours, weeks or months!

They do not know what it is to feel and manifest that intense, eager, longing, craving, insistent, demanding, ravenous Desire which is akin to the persistent, insistent, ardent, overwhelming desire of the drowning man for a breath of air; of the shipwrecked or desert-lost man for a drink of water; of the famished man for bread and meat........\"
