The Rice Hotel in Houston Texas. Very hard to find pieces from the historic Rice Hotel.
Built on the site of the capital of the Republic of Texas, the original hotel was torn down circa 1881 and a new hotel was built and named the Capital Hotel. The hotel was purchased in 1883 by William Rice, founder of Rice University, enlarged and renamed The Rice Hotel. Rice University sold the hotel in 1911 and the new owners demolished the existing structure and built a new 17 story hotel in its place. Today it operates with 300 plus residential rental units known as the "Rice Lofts".
Heavy weigh restaurant ware / vitrified ironstone china. These plates were actually used in the Rice Hotel's dining rooms and are not souvenir pieces.
