TIFFANY STUDIOS, PINE NEEDLE LG INKWELL, GRN GLASS-PATINA, BEADED BORDER, NICE~~:
$895.00

For sale is a lovely inkwell made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The inkwell is done in the \"Pine Needle\" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable green/brown with reddish highlights. The stained glass is the green/white Favrile opalescent. The inkwell is the larger size as it stands 3 1/2\" tall and is 4 1/8\" square. The inkwell displays an acid etched pine needle overlay pattern on leaf green and white opalescent Favrile stained glass. It has 2 rows of wonderful beading along the bottom and top. It sits on 4 bun style feet. This is the most desirable of the Pine Needle inkwells as it was considered the fanciest! The patina is very nice! The inkwell still retains its original clear glass insert and black insert. The inkwell is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or chips to any of the glass. The glass insert is also in very good condition with no issues. The only issue is a small dent in one of the feet and this is pictured. It is the right front foot. It sits evenly and is hard to see when displayed. The inkwell is signed on the bottom with the \"Tiffany Studios New York\" impressed mark. On the opposite side is the pattern number \"47\" impressed as well. The clear inkwell insert is also signed with \"The Davis New York\" \"Pat Mar19 Oct 22 89\" \"Feb 14 93 Jun 7 98\". Tiffany Studios did not make the inserts to these inkwells as he purchased them from this company. This is an early inkwell based on the 2 digit pattern number. I believe the Pine Needle pattern to have been the first of the Fancy Goods product lines made at Tiffany Studios. Those of you who are looking for an excellent example of this inkwell in the Pine Needle pattern will be delighted with their purchase.
Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902. Since this piece has a 2 digit number I would say this inkwell was made circa 1898-1902.
