SOhighly Detailed and Beautifully Hand Painted in Simply Spectacular Colors, this Japanese Toshikane porcelainHair Ornamentis in Excellent condition and depicts a fandecorated with a fantastic Phoenix bird, with wings outstretched and plumage streaming. Toshikane hair ornaments like this are Rare, seldom seenand hard to find.

The color combination is very striking in blue, white, persimmon-red and gold.It has a most appealing Japanesque look. You can clearly see the embossing on the borders and the creases in the fan. There is even a hint of a faint gold dot at the bottom where the struts are connected.

The fan measuresabout 15/16\" by 1-7/16\" and with the pick, about 4-1/8\" long (overall length). Well made with thoughtful construction details, the pick is deliberatelybent at the bottom to better secure it in the hair. And there is a hinge where the fan attaches to the pick, allowing it toswivel and change angles.

The back of the fanis signed \"Japan\"below the fan-shaped hallmark with Japanese characters within. The back of the pick is signed witha fan-shaped hallmark with what appear to be different Japanese characters within. (Last two photos.)The picklooks like sterling (and that is likely whatis indicated by thehallmark on the metal).

The piece isinExcellent vintage condition, with littlesigns of wear beyond dirt, tarnish(on the pick, which has a lovely vintage patina), andonly the most minimal surface wear to the paint (fading of the gold dot on the struts at the bottom, for example). There are slight inconsistencies in the paintingthat only add toits hand made charm.Absolutely nothing of consequence. Look atit closely. It is Simply Exquisite!
