This is a very rare Tag Heuer Leonidas 17 Jewels Valjoux movement Stopwatch with an even more rare protective case that has a button on the top so that the watch can be operated while it\'s in the case!
The case and watch are in beautiful shape with only light sign of use. The watch is currently not working. I took it to my local watch repair shop who agreed that this is very rare and hadn\'t seen one with the original working case and said most cases of this type are always in bad shape with the fabric covering all torn up or missing. He said the watch itself is also not a common style and more rare is that it has a 17 Jewel Valjoux movement where most have the typical 7 jewel movement. He looked it over and said that the problem with it is that the stem to wind it has slipped. Meaning the \"gear\" is off track and very fixable. He did get it working for a moment for testing purposes. I didn\'t inquire about how much it would cost to fix it but I would be glad to do so or put you in contact with him should you want and can have the repair total added to the total. I currently have several experts looking into where this watch was used. I have been told that because of my location and because of the type of watch this is that it could have been a track watch for Indianapolis Motor speedway in the late 50s. Or even for Purdue University. Another very knowledgeable watch collector says that he has seen similar types used in long distance boat racing and over seas long distance off road car races. So, it could have a very interesting history. I will be glad to continue to help track down the history of this watch after the sale as I would love to know where this beautiful work of art came from. Someone has loved this watch through the years and took very good care of it. This is the type of watch that would be the forefront of any great watch or sports collection!
