They are hand sanded, stained and finished with several coats of a thin polyurethane lightly sanded between coats.
Hand-tied Slip Knot 39\" Black Paracord Lightweight cord that is strong, resistant to UV sunlight, will not rot, mildew, or color bleed.
Adjustable Simply hold knots and pull to shorten to the length you desire and hold the cord next to the knots and pull to lengthen. The slip knot I chose resists becoming untied. The exact length of the cord may vary slightly since I trim a slight amount next to the knot and melt the end to prevent the cord from unraveling.

Velour Fabric Bag w/ drawstrings, this small 3x4 Chocolate color bag is the perfect compliment to my wood jewelry. Can also be used to buff fingerprints off the glossy surface.

Definition:

The Tau Cross, also called the Cross of Tau, the Franciscan Tau Cross, the Cross of St. Francis, and the Cross of St. Anthony, is a simple cross, based on the Greek Τ, which is pronounce taw. In Hebrew the letter is pronounced the same but written as x. It predates the cross of the crucifixion, and for this reason it is also called the Old Testament cross.

In 1215, at the Fourth Lateran Council, Pope Innocent referenced the Tau cross and the passage from Ezekiel. It is widely believed that St. Francis was present at the Council and that this is when he wholeheartedly embraced the Tau cross as his symbol. Francis used it in his writings, painted it on walls and doors where he stayed, and even used it as his signature. St. Francis would also stretch out his arms, to show his friars that their habit was also the Tau Cross. He instructed them to not only let that serve as a reminder, but also as an active symbol for them to be a walking crucifix in their lives.

Due to St. Francis’s love for the Tau Cross, it became associated with the Franciscan Order. It is adopted and used or worn by many followers of St. Francis, whether part of the religious order or secular. Even for those unfamiliar with the details of St. Francis’s life, the Franciscan Order is what comes to mind when most people see the Tau Cross. Since St. Francis preached simplicity and humility, the Tau cross in jewelry is typically very simple. Quite often, a simple wooden cross that is worn on a cord.

Some people buy a variety of Crosses to create a collage of Crosses on their wall. I use a black magic marker on the head of the nail so it doesn\'t shine.

My name is Timothy Davis and I am a Native Nevadan. Woodworking is my passion.

My work is all made by hand, by me (see below Process of each Cross), using all types of woods in my workshop in Gardnerville, Nevada. Nothing Created By Computer Assisted Process such as Laser Cutters.
Nothing is outsourced or mass produced. Each piece is individual and unique, like the wood from which it is made. No particle board and no MDF! I Only use real wood, the Crosses are High Quality Baltic Birch Plywood.
Please feel free to contact me

The of Process of making each Cross

  1. My Crosses are cut using a Hawk Scrollsaw. This process is started by drilling a small hole in every
cutout area. Then the scrollsaw blade is inserted through the (1/16 or smaller) hole and connected back to the scrollsaw,
and cut. The Blade is disconnected from the scrollsaw and threaded back through the next hole and that part of the
design is cut out. This process is repeated for every inside cut. This is a very time consuming art known as Fretwork.
  2. I then take the cut crosses and sand both sides.
  3. Next hand brush stain on the entire piece. I let the stained cross dry overnight.
  4. I start the lacquering process. I brush a coat of Minwax® Wipe-On Poly this is a very thin lacquer and I let it dry
and I sand the entire cross with a very fine 220 grit sandpaper. I repeat this process two times on each cross,
then do a final coat of lacquer.
  5. After drying for a couple of days I do a final inspection and prepare them for packaging.

Crafts like this is a work of love, obviously the small price for one of these crosses barely covers materials (wood, stain, lacquer, S&H etc.)
